FOOD HANDLER

Health Canada recognizes that safe food handling is a major contributing factor to the health of Canadians. The Food Handler Certification Program is designed to teach food handlers the general principles of safe food handling. This course will provide the food handler with knowledge that can be used to identify risk factors associated with food borne illness as well as skills necessary to handle food in a manner that will prevent illness from occurring. The course is based on the principles of sanitary food service and hazard analysis critical control point (HACCP) procedures.

WHMIS

Education and training under WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System) can be thought of as two separate parts. Education refers to the instruction of workers in general information such as how WHMIS works and the hazards of controlled products. Training refers to the instruction in site-specific information such as work and emergency procedures. Both education and training are an important part of understanding the hazards that may be present at your workplace. All Canadian jurisdictions require that employers develop, implement, and maintain a worker education program that will enable workers to work safely with hazardous chemicals. The specific WHMIS education and training requirements are regulated by each occupational health and safety jurisdiction.

SMART SERVE

Serving and selling alcohol is a serious responsibility. In Ontario it is mandatory that anyone working in a licensed establishment and handling alcohol must take the Smart Serve training and get certified. A Licensee is responsible for the safety and sobriety of all the customers in any establishment – sober or intoxicated. Responsible alcohol service begins with knowledge of the law.
